What am I doing

My name is Troy. I'm a techie with a physics degree and an all-consuming passion for AI and I want to talk about how AI systems are being developed, how they're being used, and importantly, how they're being misused. So much already is riding on AI and AI development, but the voices speaking about it tend to fall into the following categories:

  • marketing speak from the mouths and mouthpieces of billionaires
  • extremely technical monotone from nerds who are pushing this technology as fast as they can
  • terrified screaming from less technically-inclined people scared out of their minds that someone is about the summon the machine god that will rule our solar system

GUARDRaiLS exists as a space to find useful interpretations from the grotesque cascade of AI news and marketing jargon as well as the technical papers, blog posts, and code repositories constantly flooding the information marketplace.

For everyone

The content here is meant to be interesting to technical people who work closely with AI but also digestible to those who lack the time or background to make sense of this rapidly-changing landscape. I hope readers find it thought-provoking.

Be as mad as you want

What is written here is driven by personal opinion. I'm trying hard to remain factually accurate, but there is a lot we don't know about the future of AI. Add to that deliberate obfuscation of corporate secrets by the major players, and I often find myself forced to operate on limited information. Speculation abounds. If you see something that is inaccurate or an opinion that you find asinine, say so. I'd like this to be a place where biases are challenged and blindspots shrink under the cold light of reality.
